Overview

Guided Roots is a Canadian grassroots organization on a mission to foster the emotional health of individuals & families and prevent family violence in the Muslim community. Position

The Research Assistant will be working directly with the board in multiple projects including creating courses and information booklets on mental health and trauma informed care for community leaders and community members, gathering and organizing mental health resources for awareness purposes, developing culturally and faith sensitive programs, in addition to other administrative responsibilities. The job is remote and hours are flexible. The ideal candidate must be a student or a graduate of a post-graduate institution with a background in psychology or related field, combined with one year of relevant research experience. 

The successful candidate will have knowledge of the recent findings in the field of mental health, child development, parenting and trauma informed care. You will have proficiency with Microsoft office and bibliography. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication and organization skills are required. The successful candidate will be detail oriented with demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to produce high quality and accurate work while meeting program deadlines and requirements. 

You will possess the ability to effectively handle confidential information and the ability to exercise initiative with good judgment and tact. Other preferred skills include the ability to work in a team environment as well as strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Job Responsibilities

  • Research literature, summarize findings and create reports and articles on mental health, adverse childhood experiences, and trauma informed care 
  • Create content, articles and scripts to create community awareness
  • Assist with the collection, management, and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data 
  • Assist in the development of culturally sensitive mental health programs 
  • Assist in the development of trauma informed and trauma supportive programs 
  • Work with the team to prepare written materials: focus group/interview guides, organization’s blog, research ethics board applications, consent forms, manuscripts, grants, proposals research reports, poster and presentation submissions 
  • Work with the team to develop campaign materials that promote mental health and create awareness of family violence
  • Any other responsibilities assigned by the board

Additional Job Requirements

  • Student or graduate of a post-graduate institution with a background in psychology, combined with one year of relevant research experience. 
  • In addition, as par the requirement of the Canada Summer Job grant, to be eligible, the applicant must be:
    • between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment; and
    • a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment (cannot be an International student)
  • Knowledge of Islamic psychology and history will be an asset
  • Self-motivation, positivity and a drive to fulfill the organization’s mission
