Nusrat is a dreamer, mother, certified trauma-informed trainer, researcher, writer & a friend, with a love for learning multi-disciplinary perspectives to understand deep-rooted societal problems. Nusrat earned her Bachelor’s degree in Chemical and Bio-Engineering from the University of Toronto, with a certificate in Entrepreneurship & Business Innovation. For the next four years, she studied Islamic sciences online with globally renowned scholars, earning a Master’s degree & an Advanced Diploma in Islamic Studies, and a certification in Quranic Arabic. It was her dynamic involvement in her faith community during this period, that inspired her post-graduate research on domestic violence in the Canadian Muslim community. The findings opened her eyes to the depth of the problem, but more importantly, it presented a unique potential of the Muslim community to change the current narrative. As a mother who wanted to protect her children from the trauma that she herself had experienced, Nusrat also studied the fascinating science of how childhood experiences and trauma shape our emotional health and behaviors, and in turn, learnt how it can heal us and transform our relationships and our community’s power of resilience. She became a certified Trauma-Informed Care trainer to help build the framework for her community’s support system & resilience. At Guided Roots, it all comes together. Nusrat has many dreams but the biggest of them all is to take a small part in making the world a more loving and safer place for her children.
